Silencers are one option but possibly the most effective silencer is the speed controller. This simple device allows you to reduce the speed, and thus the noise, of your fan until it is at a comfortable level. A small reduction in speed makes a very significant reduction in noise levels. Obviously it removes less air but this can be compensated for by running for longer periods.
