A major problem with hydroponic lighting is timer failure. Household timers bought from hardware stores are simply not designed to handle the (inductive) power loads of hydroponic lighting.

The solution is to buy a contactor. You still need a 24-hour mechanical (household) timer however the power goes through the contactor and not your timer.

The role of the timer in this is to turn your contactor on and off which then turns your lights on and off - Simple !

This is a low cost solution to the problem of timer failure.

The LightSafe 13 Amp Contactor / Relays unit plugs into your existing timer to protect against the inductive loads generated by the electrical discharge of Horticultural Lighting. The LightSafe 13 Amp Contactor Relay unit range can switch a maximum of 13 Amp of discharge lighting - in practice this is the equivalent to - 1 x 1000, 3 x 600watts, or 4 x 400watts. However, this can vary according to the make and condition of the lighting system used.
