HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM  (HPS) REPLACEMENT BULBS

Hps lights are best for flowering but you can still use one of these bulbs for the growing stage of your plants life with some good results.

The High Pressure Sodium (HPS) bulb will produce light that is very bright and concentrated on the yellow to red side of the color spectrum, therefore, will appear very yellow/orange in colour.  This color is not as balanced as the Halide but makes up for the lacking of a balanced spectrum in the amount of light given off by the bulb.  The HPS bulbs produce between 97 to 150 lumens per watt which is much higher than the Halide bulbs so HPS lights tend to be put to use when the plants begin to flower because the HPS lights produce so much more light than the Halides.  However, even though the HPS bulbs do not have as good a spectrum as the Metal Halides the intense light that is emitted by the HPS bulb will aid in flower development and fruit set.

HPS bulbs have been known to make some plants grow leggy and stretched out because of the yellow to red spectrum they omit, which is why some growers prefer to switch when they begin to flower.

At Norfolk Lights & Hydroponics Centre we stock a wide range of all grow lights, if you can't find what your looking for, telephone us on 01603 666199, we are only to happy to help.
