When using HID lighting you must control your lighting cycle with a contactor timer. This is because a normal domestic timer unit can not withstand the high electrical conductivity load required to ignite the HID lighting.

Plugging HID lighting directly into a domestic timer unit will cause failure to the unit which can potentially lead to an electrical hazard, which could leave you with your lights stuck on/off.
